Situation
Nørreport Station, a central transport hub in Copenhagen, is a complex area where passengers switch daily between different modes of transport such as buses, S-trains and the metro. Across four different bus stops, Movia faced the challenge of making it easier for passengers to find their bus route. In light of how station, stop and urban design influence navigation in the area, a pilot project was launched to assess the impact of various design changes.
Complication
Movia wished to make it easier for passengers to navigate at Nørreport by introducing visible design changes: taller, yellow stop poles, clear letter markings, and the inclusion of letter markings on signs and in Rejseplanen. The aim was to make the stops more user-friendly and easier to locate in the busy hub. The project was intended to provide insights into how these elements affect customers’ experience and whether they contribute to meeting the objective of improving wayfinding.
Recommendation
Based on the study, Epinion recommends that Movia implements the new design changes at complex stops with many different stop poles. The pilot has shown that the combined design changes have a positive effect in helping passengers find the relevant stop, which contributes to creating a good customer experience at Nørreport Station.
